The demand for the book has been so great that it has undergone four printings. Inasmuch as a decade has elapsed since the original lectures were given, it was deemed desirable to bring the material up to date before a fifth printing was undertaken. A considerable quantity of the original matter rested on statutory and case law which suggested that legislative enactments and court decisions during the last ten years should be reviewed for their impact on the principles enunciated in the text. In some areas the discussion had revolved around company practices which needed to be re-examined for trends and major changes. Finally, the material on the taxation of insurance proceeds had been rendered quite obsolete by a succession of important Revenue Acts, most notably by the Internal Revenue Code of 1954
