This booklet was first designed to assist the life assurance underwriter and, in particular, the junior underwriter, but it may be of interest to the student and to others engaged in life assurance work. It consists in the main of a summary and an appreciation of the medical terms the underwriter is likely to meet in his day to day work and includes short notes on some of the special investigations which are sometimes called for, and goes on to indicate in general terms the sort of extra mortality that may be associated, in the average case, with a particular impairment.
