The purpose is to make available a current work of use to those who provide health and medical care services and who administer medical care facilities; to those who research and write in the field of medical economics; to those engaged in the processes of forming public policy; to those who purchase health insurance; to employers and labor unions; and to those who manage or administer the different types of health insurance mechanisms.
Throughout the book, areas where current statistical and research information are incomplete have been identified. This is not intended critically, but rather to strike a cautionary note that available information can be tentative and inconclusive. It also points the way for further research and examination.
