     Summary

The book is divided into seven parts. The first part is introductory in that it presents articles on organizational behavior and theory, and on managerial practice. This part provides an overview of the direction and content base of these readings. Part 2 focuses on organizational effectiveness. Included are articles on the work of managers and their effectiveness in various types of organizations. Part 3 presents seven articles which discuss behavior in organizations. The articles focus on individuals, motivation, leadership, and conflict. Part 4 includes seven articles, each dealing with one or more aspects of organizational structure. This section includes two articles dealing with nonbusiness organizations, universities and hospitals, which facilitate interorganizational analysis. Part 5 is comprised of four articles which discuss problems and strategies of communications and decision making. Part 6 includes five articles which discuss organizational change and development. Finally, Part 7 integrates the material through three case studies of organizations which utilized behavioral science concepts in some aspect of managing individuals, groups, and organizations.
