Summary |
The origin of special perils insurance lies in requests for the deletion of some of the exclusions in the standard fire cover, and it is still possible to give this limited extra cover, although many special perils covers today range far beyond the strict limits of fires and fire insurance. Where exclusions are to be deleted it is obviously proper to provide the extra cover by means of amendment to the underlying fire policy, and where further extensions are required it seems logical and simple to follow the same course. This development brings to fire insurers a welcome increase in premium income without a corresponding increase in expenses, and for the public, presents an attractive opportunity for wide cover in one policy at a relatively modest rate of premium.
