The author has attempted in this book to accomplish three main goals. First, in recognizing that one book in insurance is the maximum number that most college students will ever study, the author has tried to cover the basic ideas, problems, and principles found in all types of modern-day insurance and other methods of handing risk. The basic problems caused by risk in our world have been emphasized first, before posing solutions.
The second goal in writing this book is to present in considerable detail some of the fundamental unifying elements of risk and insurance. In areas with so many diverse features, some attempt at unification is almost a necessity
