     Summary

In Practical Fire and Casualty Insurance the authors have endeavored to set down in concise form the essentials of fire and casualty insurance as the business is carried on in this country today. Much of the detail frequently found in college textbooks on “principles” has been purposely omitted. Also, the book is not comparable in depth to the various specialized treatises dealing with one or another of the branches or functions of the business. For the new or prospective agent or company employee, the book should serve as an introduction to the business of insurance. In addition, it may apply a new perspective as well as a useful review for the experienced agent or specialist. It is hoped that it may prove useful also as a text for college course in insurance principles’ or in fire and casualty insurance. For those who wish to use the book as a home study course, it should be studied in conjunction with the appropriate policy forms and endorsements and the various manuals to be found in any general insurance office. The “Questions for Study and Discussion” which appear at the close of each chapter will serve as an excellent exercise for the reader who wishes to determine how thoroughly he has mastered the subject matter.
