     Summary

The book aims to be complete in itself and not complementary to any English work on life assurance law. On the other hand, its size preludes discussion of the general principles underlying this branch of the law in both England and Australia in anything like the detail contained in the classic English works, such as those of Bunyon and McGillivray, to which the reader is referred if he wishes to extend his studies on these matters. It further aims to present its subject as it stands today rather than to give an historical account of the development of assurance law in Australia. Thus cases are cited rather to give authority for propositions or to illustrate particular phases of the subject than to afford a digest of decisions on assurance law; while, other things being equal, Australian cases have been preferred, English decisions are cited where the occasion requires.
