     Summary

This book, like the original, is a comprehensive treatment of management. It describes in detail the three responsibilities of management: the performance of the institution for which managers work, making work productive and the worker achieving, and managing social impacts and social responsibilities. It goes on to describe the tasks and practices that a manager must acquire to fulfill his or her responsibilities. Parts 1 through 5 of the book are devoted both to the responsibilities of managers and to the responsibilities of the leadership group of an organization. Parts 6 through 9 are devoted to the numerous, interrelated tasks and practices managers must acquire to fulfill responsibilities. Part 10 describes in detail the new demands placed on managers and management by the information revolution and by the advent of the knowledge society. These new demands were foreshadowed but not fully addressed in the original edition.
