As an economy treads along a higher growth path, the income level of some sections experiences significant increase. This increase in prosperity changes the demand pattern in the economy and by the market mechanism, production of goods used by the prospering sections goes up. Production of consumption items of rich often requires more resources on an average than what production of poor mans consumption items needs. Therefore, with rise in income supply of poor mans production items may fall sizeable making their livelihood unsustainable. We mean sustainable development has thrown out a challenge to economics, academics and other fields like ecological system.
