Today small-scale industry sector, as important segment of the Indian economy. It accounts for nearly 35% of the gross value of output in the manufacturing sector and over 40 % of the total exports from the country to achieve better industrial growth and diversification. The small-scale sector has made significant contribution to employment generation and also to the rural industrialization. The promotional and protective policies of the government have ensured the presence of this sector in wide range of products. To safeguard the small-scale sector from large-scale sector a number of measures have been initiated by the government.
The book is divided in eight chapters that deal with the organizational structure, central and state government policies support structure, institutional credit framework and sickness and problems of small-scale industries. It also deals with the growth and performance of small-scale industries under various industrial policies and five-year plan periods.
