This study is a part of the research report created by Indiaforensic Center of Studies and Fraudexpress Media on the Quantification of Insurance frauds in India with special emphasis on the challenges faced by the Fraud Control Units in India. This study quantifies the total losses caused to the Indian insurance companies and also attempts to quantify the sectoral losses. According to this research India lose more than $ 6 billion in Insurance frauds. Most of it can be attributed to the Life Insurance sector. This study also includes in-sights in managing the Fraud Control Units.
This research project has been taken to create guidance for the effective management of Fraud Control Units of the Insurance companies and to help the industry understand the importance of the fraud losses on their bottom-line. Further project is aimed to create awareness about the opportunities pertaining to forensic accounting and importance of testing the knowledge on forensic accounting in Insurance sector to prevent the frauds by understanding the early signs and thereby taking the appropriate action.
