     Summary

In this book authors will address the history of health insurance in the world and more recently in the U.S. Author will analyze the types of health insurance that are provided by employers, the health insurance that is purchased by individuals, and the different forms of health insurance that are provided to various populations by the government including needy populations and retired individuals. The health insurance environment is the U.S. is undergoing major change as this book is being written. This is due to another attempt at health reform that is taking place. This book will discuss previous plans to implement various types of health reform in the U.S. The health reform process has been and still is politically charged and although the current status of health reform is described in this book, the final product can be expected to differ from what is described. For example, one aspect of health reform which related to a form of nursing home or long term care insurance was recently removed from the health reform package due to the fact that it was determined not to be financially viable, an issue that was addressed by the representatives of the American Academy of Actuaries among others.
