This book has been organized into four modules.
Module 1 – Introduces the readers to the legal environment of the insurance business. Chapter 1 discusses insurance as a contractual relationship in light of the Indian contract Act, 1872. Chapter 2 gives an overview of the various provisions of the insurance act, 1938. Chapter 3 and 4 highlight the salient provisions of the life insurance corporation act, 156 and general insurance business (Nationalisation) act, 1972 respectively. Chapter 5 is devoted to the constitution of and regulation of insurance business by the IRDA as per insurance regulatory and development authority act, 1999.
Module 2 – Chapter 6 describes the important provisions of motor vehicles act, 1939 & the amended act of 1988 which include the insurance of third party risks and the functioning of MACT. Chapter 7 discusses the marine insurance act, 1963 – the various principles of insurance applicable to insurance business, the provisions relating to losses and damages etc.
Module 3 – Provide a brief overview of the provisions relating to insurance as contained in the various transportation laws other those discussed in module 2.
Module 4 – Contains the various liability laws as applicable to insurance.
