The tool kit is a basic document that outlines the operational steps that should be taken to implement the biovillages concept in developmental action at the villages level. The kit has been developed on the basis of the rich experiences gained by the field staff in the implementation of the program. These experiences brought home the fact that conceptual models and practical implementation steps may differ when interacting factors like environmental conditions, social milieu, economic predisposition and structural and institutional arrangements introduce complexities. The biovillages program was implemented by a team of biological and physical scientists who interacted with sociologists and social scientists to operationalize the program at the village level. Constraints faced by these teams undertaking various micro-enterprises ands micro-credit programs have been documented as experiences and lessons learnt. Innovative approaches to overcome these constraints that were tried out successfully have been recorded.
