Summary |
The cases included in this book were carefully selected for the study of managerial finance in colleges and universities, executive-development course, and business-training programs. The cases have been selected from more than 100 cases examined for potential inclusion. All have been successfully tested in the classroom
The purpose of this portion of the volume is to give the student and businessman an opportunity to (1) cultivate skills in the analysis of financial problems; (2) apply the knowledge gathered from readings, lectures, and experience; (3) provide a discussion framework for the formulation and implementation of financial policies; and (4) gain experience in defending, in the face of criticisms, the policies adopted.
The study of case materials has proven to be an interesting, provocative, and rewarding experience for both the student and business executive. The skill in decision making that one acquire from case study has assisted the student and business executive in making an earlier and more valuable contribution to the firm. One reason for this is that the case method alters the students and businessmans role by placing him in a simulated business situation in which he must make a decision regarding a complicated financial problem.
