This book covers all aspects of the subject including its application to premium rates for annuities, assurances on one or more lives, the reserves that should be held for these contracts and also the calculation of surrender and paid up values. The various techniques are also extended to deal with decrements from causes other than death only. Pension fund and sickness functions which are important in the study of superannuation arrangements and sickness benefit schemes are discussed.
In keeping with the nature of the subject, numerous practical examples are given to demonstrate the principles. There are many exercises for solution by the student for which answers are provided. Many of the examples and exercises are at examination standard. Extracts from three of the current published tables of mortality in use in the United Kingdom are included together with tables of sickness rates and various functions developed to facilitate pension fund calculations.
