The collection of essays in this volume reflects the current thinking on issues related to corporate governance in general, and the role and responsibilities of directors, both individually and collectively as corporate boards. Broadly, the papers have been grouped together on the basis of the strategic and directional aspects of company boards and their directors, the regulatory and transparency aspects of corporate management, and the ethical foundations of business and management. As will seen from their brief introductions elsewhere, the contributors to this volume have been drawn from a wide spectrum of experience and affiliations, covering pure academics, hard core practitioners, consultants, regulators; public and private sector functionaries, and professionals with diverse exposures. Among them are philosophers, accountants, economists, engineers and technologists, strategists, and businessmen.
