This new, fourth edition has been updated to reflect the significant changes that have taken place over the last five years. It puts increasing emphasis on areas such as the rent-a-captive, financial reinsurance, the increasing use of onshore captive locations and developments in the international taxation area. The final chapter books at the future of captives and begins to question whether they still have a role to play and particularly whether they are being used effectively by their owners.
The number of captive locations continues to expand and the book again includes details of all of the known, credible locations. In the appendices, details, in summary form, of the legal requirements and special consideration for captives have been widened to include, compared to the third edition, Gibraltar, Switzerland, Panama and the British Virgin Islands. The fairly arbitrary list of captives has been updated to reflect the wider geographic spread of owners and demonstrate how captive formation has spread from the dominating position of the United States and the United kingdom to today’s situation where captives can be found in virtually all developed countries around the world.
