The subject of administration is divided into three parts and a conclusion. The first part contains the general definition of the activity of reinsurance, the second part deals with the three levels of authority classified in accordance with their principal features as : decision level for leadership, preparatory level for the intermediate authority between leadership and level on which the final physical office work is carried out or executed. This last level is called execution level, although the description “executives” is generally used for the high functionaries of an enterprise. The third part deals with the layout of figure work, which is performed by the major part of the personnel of a reinsurance company. The organization is shown only in a rough outline of a system of which the author has had about 20 years’ practical experience, but does not pretend to give a perfect pattern or model to be used; on the contrary, the aim is only to show a method of handling the subject which in practice has to be adapted to the specific traditions, requirements and character of the individual enterprise.
