This study of Swedish road safety experience and insurance practice is not intended to be exhaustive. It is merely an attempt to examine some lines of enquiry whereby the theories and techniques as developed in one country can assist in the theory and practice of another. Sweden seems a particularly appropriate field of study for a variety of reasons.
The inclusion of both the partners in the European Free Trade Area vastly increase the potential trade between the two countries, and extended commercial penetration has begun on both sides, of the North Sea. British insurance companies have operated in Sweden from the turn of the eighteenth century, and the past few years have seen the first incursion into the British insurance market by a Swedish company writing direct business.
