This edition, the third, is an extensive revision of the second edition published three years ago. The text has been brought up to date, together with practically all the legal cases since the first edition in 1942. Two new features are a series of specimen reinsurance forms, and those portions of the insurance law of four representative states that bear on reinsurance. The analytical index, also revised, has been kept uniform with prior editions so that users of those editions may readily fin the subjects as previously discussed.
Throughout the book an attempt has been made to give references and citations to the works of different writers. In a great number of instances the exact words of the authority are given. There is no set formula in matters of reinsurance practice. Parties arrange their own contracts and go about certain features in different ways; accordingly, it is well to have each person to whom reference is made and who discusses a point speak in his own words. To these persons the writer remains indebted and also to many reinsurance executives, brokers and lawyers who have been of substantial aid.
