This edition, the fourth, is an extensive revision of the third edition published 15 years ago. The text has been brought up to date, together with practically all the important legal cases since the first edition in 1942. Important English cases have been added and the text amplified. Specimen reinsurance forms, and those portions of the insurance law of four representative states the bear on reinsurance have been revised. The analytical index, also revised, has been kept uniform with prior editions so that user of those editions may readily find the subjects as previously discussed.
Throughout the book an attempt has been made to give references and citations to the works of different writers. In a great number of instances the exact words of the authority are given. It is well to have each person to whom reference is made and who discusses a point speak in his own words. To these persons the writer remains indebted and also to many reinsurance executives, brokers and lawyers who have been of substantial aid.
