     Summary

As its title suggests, this first unit introduces the whole subject of interactive video. As such, it aims to explain the meaning of interactivity as well as introducing you to basic concepts such as branching. This first unit also touches upon the reasons for the increasing popularity of interactive video in the training environment. The latter part of the unit deals with the subject of interactive video as a training tool. As well as comparing IV with other training media, there are examples of application areas in which interactive video has already proved particularly appropriate. With the possible exception of a few technical references, you should not find this first unit at all difficult. The checkpoints, as well as the subject matter, have been kept relatively ‘light’.
