The title of this book, “Non-Proportional Reinsurance”, draws attention to a type of contract between Insurance offices which has been utilized to an ever increasing extent in recent years. It is intellectually satisfying as well as practically useful to divide into categories the various manifestations of one and the same idea-in the present case that of reinsurance.
The five papers on various aspects of non-proportional reinsurance which follow are the texts-some complete and some shortened-of entries submitted for a competition, the terms of which were deliberately left rather general. It was the aim of the orgaisers to stimulate interest in the subject as well as to ascertain the present opinion of the experts and the diversity of the contents of the various papers bears witness to the success of the scheme in this respect.
