     Summary

In spite of the fact that half a century has not yet elapsed since the issue of the first motor policy, many complicated details are associated with the transaction of motor insurance business to-day. Indeed, one of the most difficult tasks, in the preparation of the following pages, has been to decide what matters to include and what to omit. The operation of the Road Traffic Acts, 1930, has been responsible for the introduction of many changes in practice, and an effort has been made to make mention of those of the greatest importance. Many of the alterations were conceived in that period of ceaseless activity which will never be forgotten by the motor insurance official-November and December, 1930-during which he burned the midnight oil, in order to prepare certificates and revise all policies which would not conform to the cover made compulsory by the insurance provisions of the new Statutes to come into operation on the following New Year’s Day. Other amendments have arisen out of difficulties experienced since the operation of the Acts, e.g., the stipulations regarding licensed drivers, the towage of disabled vehicles, and the date of delivery of certificates of insurance.
