     Summary

The concept for the Philadelphia world Insurance Congress was initiated by INA Corporation, which assumed a leadership role in the Congress’s development. Through INA’s efforts, a coalition of the city of Philadelphia and its academic and insurance institutions was formed to sponsor and help direct the development of the congress. A Steering Committee served essentially as a board of directors to the Corporation for the Philadelphia world Insurance Congress. The first part of this work encompasses the first two plenary sessions, which were devoted to presenting “A World in Transition.” The second part encompasses the remainder of the first day of the Congress and explores “Markets in Transition – Changing Demand for Risk Transfer and Related Services.” The third part, the second day of the Congress, presents the supply side response to these changing demands as well as to specific economic and industry issues. Part IV encompasses the major portion of the third day of the Congress, which focused on management issues important to the success of an insurance company during this transition period. The Congress and the Proceedings end with a presentation of a “World Insurance Outlook.” This session summarizes many of the findings of the Congress.
