     Summary

Today a single insurer may occupy the entire field of insurance outside life insurance, a fact that requires a new approach to almost every problem confronting such an insurer. The process of solving these problems on the new basis is by no means complete-much remains to be done but it is felt that the time has arrived to describe the situation presently prevailing in the insurance business and to indicate the direction in which steps are being taken to fashion the insurance structure of the future. The insurance business is still in the process of creating new types of executives and technicians to cope with multiple-line problems. Some of these individuals will come from one section of the field, some from the other, and it will take time to reconcile traditional differences in principles, procedures, and practices, and thus to create the manpower needed to organize and operate the future business of multiple-line insurance. Some of the statements in this book do not exactly describe current conditions in the insurance business.
