Summary |
There are two main reasons for writing this book. One, the boom in the world shipping scenario in the 1990s has resulted in a sea-change in the law relating to carriage of goods by sea. The recent enforcement of the hague-visby and hamburg rules, and the increase in the transport of goods by containers has lent the subject an entirely new perspective. In 1993, India enacted the multimodal transportation of goods act. This act has amended the Indian carriage of goods by sea act, 1925 which is now based on the hague-visby rules, 1968, and not The Hague rules of 1924. All this has necessitated the updating of material and jettisoning various principles and cases which now are no longer worthy of inclusion.
