The book also covers some of the changes that are taking place in existing or traditional personnel functions practices. These changes are due to the increased importance being given to functions, such as selection or training, by organizations wanting to identify and utilize human resources as efficiently as possible. There is now an increasing concern for productivity and better utilization of human resources at the plant level in an increasingly competitive environment. These changes, which are more towards expanding the role of the personnel function, could also be, to some extent, attributed to behavioural science research into the understanding of human behavior at the work place.
