This text is divided into two volumes. Volume I begins with an overview of insurance company operations. It is intended to introduce each of the major insurance functions which are dealt with in detail in later chapters. Chapter 1 discusses the interrelationship and interdependency of insurance company operations. Chapters 2 and 3 deal with marketing, including a discussion of recent developments in the marketing of property and liability insurance. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 analyze the underwriting function. Chapter 4 analyzes basic principles of underwriting, the organization of underwriting activities, and underwriting decision making. These principles are applied to selected property and liability lines in Chapters 5 and 6. Chapters 7 and 8 provide an in-depth study of the major types of reinsurance, including an analysis of reinsurance programs and reinsurance transaction.
Volume II begins with two chapters on rate making.
