     Summary

The law relating to unclear energy is of outstanding interest to all lawyers because of the original solutions it contains to the new issues presented. The special feature of unclear energy is, of course, that despite the excellent safety record so far established, the development of the nuclear industry inevitably involves considerable risks, especially in connection with the operation of nuclear installations. Great care has in particular to be taken to protect workers and the community at large form exposure to the ionizing radiations which might accidentally be emitted during the operation and maintenance of such installations, the handling and transport of irradiated fuel elements and the storage and disposal of radioactive waste. The extensive applications now being made of radioisotopes to medical and industrial purposes also require to be strictly controlled if adequate protection is to be afforded.
