     Summary

General Insurance Essentials has been designed as a two-part course that will help readers to understand something of the workings of insurance. It will look at the various segments of the insurance industry and how they all fit together. It will briefly explain how legislation regulates and controls all aspects of insurance. Every profession and discipline has a language of its own and insurance is no exception. This course will try to demystify and explain commonly used words and phrases and the concepts behind them. Some of the most common classes of insurance will be discussed and the corresponding policies studied. Emphasis will be on personal lines coverages, however, basic commercial lines insurances will also be introduced. Finally, the claims process will be reviewed as will reinsurance, risk management, and loss prevention.
