     Summary

The general topic of all lines insurance was broken down into eleven subtopics, with a lecture being devoted to each subtopic. The first lecture probed into the forces underling the trend toward this type of operation. The second lecture traced the evolution of the insurance regulatory philosophy in the United States, with special emphasis on the development and subsequent erosion of the monocline principle of operation, and described the present status of the regulatory structure with respect to all lines underwriting authority. The third lecture analyzed the various techniques by which an existing insurance organization can bridge the gap between monocline or multiple line insurance to all lines operations. The next six lectures dealt successively with the impact of all lines operations on administration, product development, marketing, underwriting, losses and expenses, investments, and training. The tenth lecture examined the regulatory problems created by the all lines approach. The final lecture was in the nature of a critique or appraisal of the entire movement.
