This book, which first appeared in the Insurance Studies series in Germany, is now published in an expanded and revised form.
This introduction to the broad field of reinsurance cannot aim to cover all the aspects and special types of reinsurance in its numerous and constantly changing forms, let alone discuss them in detail. The purpose of this introductory work would be achieved if it succeeded in describing the methods used by reinsurers in daily practice so graphically that the reader is given assistance in using them himself or, at least, enabled to judge critically the rational application of the reinsurance techniques in particular cases. The extensive literature on the subject in German and other languages is indispensable for acquiring more detailed knowledge of the nature and forms if reinsurance.
