The chapters of this book are edited versions of lectures delivered to graduate students at the University of Pennsylvania who were preparing to become college teachers in the field of risk and insurance. Although the primary purpose of the lectures was to increase the understanding and knowledge of these future teachers in a selected sector of risk and insurance, the Huebner Foundation has recognized an obligation to make the papers available to all who have an interest in risk management.
