This book has been conceived, prepared, and published in conjunction with the Philadelphia World Insurance Congress of 1982, held in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city. The volume represents an effort to compile in one reference source reasonably current information about the insurance business as it operates within the economic, demographic, political, and legal environments of countries throughout the world.
Reports have been prepared covering more than ninety countries and markets. In the interest of achieving some uniformity, a standard format has been followed in the writing and editing of each report.
