Summary |
The Fact Book reports on the United States business of all legal reserve life insurance companies operating in this country, and the total domestic and foreign business of U.S. life companies. Information on life insurance issued by fraternal benefit societies operating in the U.S. and Canada is included in various parts of the text and in statistical material on pages 101 and 102.
Some insurance companies, through parent corporations or by ownership of subsidiaries, engage in other financial services, such as mutual funds. While the Fact Book includes descriptive information on these services, the statistics reflect only insurance operations.
The Fact Book data are derived from annual statements provided by life insurance companies, and through surveys conducted by the Council. Assistance is also given by commercial publishers of life insurance statistics, government agencies and other life insurance organizations.
