Summary |
This report by the national council of applied economic research is the first attempt, at the all-India level, to systematically study the effect of a major technological development in agriculture on rural income, consumption and savings over a consecutive three-year period, 1968-69, 1969-70 and 1970-71 by a sample survey of over 4,000 rural households in three annual rounds.
The findings provide empirical answers to questions such as who has benefited from the new strategy for agriculture and to what extent.
By repeated visits to the same households in the three rounds it has been possible to secure fairly reliable information for drawing conclusions on the expenditure behavior of different strata of rural households as their income rose. The study also shows the impact of the new agricultural strategy on income distribution.
