     Summary

The book begins with a discussion of the concept and the role of Corporate Planning as an overall control system for an enterprise. It goes on to examine the practice of forecasting, both for economic factors and in technological, social and political areas. The section on key strategies and plants starts with the conventional analysis of corporate strengths and weaknesses and the development of financial and marketing plans, and then moves into new areas of corporate planning, e.g. strategic planning for resources, the development of strategies for international expansion, and planning for technology, production and industrial relations. The part of the book concerned with organizing and implementing corporate planning examines the problems of organizational change and the evolution which has to take place in the management system as a whole if the corporate or strategic aspects of an enterprises are to be given due attention. This last section includes five case studies written by senior managers who were concerned in the implementation of planning systems in very different organizations- manufacturing industry, construction, local government, a bank, and a nationalized industry.
